Post subject: Need Help to Sell Large Alexandrites and other small stones
PostPosted: Sat Jul 08, 2017 2:49 pm
Hi Guys,

I have two large Alexandrites for Sale. 70+ ct Purplish Red-Dark Green Natural Alexandrite and 32+ ct Orange-Yellowish Green Alexandrite.

I also have other small and large (over 15 cts) stones for sale such as Alexandrites, Blue/Yellow/Pink Sapphires, Rubies, Zircons, Garnets and many more.

Can someone please assist me in selling these stones? Or teach me who i should reach to discuss about these stones.

Thanks and Have a great day!

The first thing you should do is have an identification report done by a major lab.

I did. For the 70+ ct stone I have a report from Gubelin and for the 32+ stone i have a report from GRS.

Any tips would be very helpful.

Can you post a copy of the report on the forum?

I think your best venue would be auction.
Christie's
Sotheby
Bonham's Natural History Department

Talk to their experts. They will direct you to the most promising location for best results.

You might also consider contacting Bill Larson at Pala Gems, California

Thanks for your expert advise! I am bit hesitant to post it on a public forum. But I am happy to Private Msg/e-mail you with both certificates. I already e-mailed Christie's and Sotheby. But I prefer a private buyer if possible.

Do you have any idea roughly how much this might worth? I know Alexandrites are rare. But how rare this really is?

And whats the best rout to sell the small ones? I have the ability to sell the large Natural Sapphires too.

I will be more than happy to send the report to the person who can teach me/guide me to sell this stone. I dont want anyone to waste my time as well. I didn't open this thread to have 'fun' with you'll by wasting your time. I respect the knowledge of every member and genuinely want to know members opinion and learn since i am new to this area. I work as an analyst at a fortune 500 company and i want to make extra money and may be eventually do this permanently.

I have a Gubelin report for the 70+ ct stone and GRS report for the 32+.

All the large stones (over 15 cts) i can provide are natural. I am not spamming by trying to find buyers. I just want your advice if possible.

Can you guide me the right way to sell it? I will be more than happy to message you the report.

You guys must be thinking that i am lying. I also have no time to waste with people who just want to 'see' the stone/report. Currently 80 people saw my thread and only three people cared to at least respond. Thank you, Barbra and Marlow for taking time.

I know I am the one who wants to sell it. But I don't feel comfortable posting it publicly. I hope you understand.

I also have a video done for this stone. So anyone who wants to help me have a clear idea about this stone.

PAGemstones.
I don't think you as naive as you would like us to believe.

Our members are industry professionals who rightfully question the validity of your claim.

The largest known faceted alexandrite is a red/green color change stone weighing in at 65.7 carats on display at the Smithsonian Institution.

You have a larger one?

Send me a copy of the documentation and/or the report numbers:
bav@gemologyonline.com

Thanks.

Thanks PAGemstones.
Received documentation, pictures and video.
The Gubelin was issued in 2007.
i think you should get a contemporary report from GIA.
Chances are good that the GIA will feature it in an upcoming Gems and Gemology publication.

Once that is accomplished, again I think the auction houses would be your best bet as they attract international buyers who could afford the stone.
Finding a private buyer, would be difficult if you do not travel in the circles of very well healed collectors.

So it is real. O.K. - not a troll.

The only advice I can give you for free is the same you got from Barbra.

Auction house ( the top ones ) or a high end jeweller like Graff.

Hi PAGemstones,

Did you acquire the report yourself or did you acquire the stones with the report?

There is a verification number on reports of reputable labs. I say this because I have heard of fake reports circulating in Asia and an extra precaution wouldn't be so bad given the type of stones you have.

Gubelin's verification can only track 2011 reports to present. I suggest you get a recent report from a reputable lab, otherwise, for such size of alexandrite, people would be wary buying it without easy verification.
