I've been private messaging people for a few weeks but I thought maybe my life would be easier if I just make a public call out... I'm looking to buy an old cutting handpiece/head from Russia/Eastern Europe called a Quadrant or in Russian I've seen it called ШТЫРЕВОЙ КВАДРАНТ. It has a very interesting and old history that I want to share with the world once I have one in my faceting museum collection. If anyone has one or knows someone who has one or knows Russian cutters, please put the word out. Thanks so much!

Квадрант is a generic term for a device allowing you to position/otient 'something' precisely around or inside of a '1/4 of a turn'. - way too generic and used for devices in all sorts of applications, from surgical tools to construction equipment. Regarding faceting, in Russian, often the entire handpiece/head is referred to as a Квадрант, so have this in mind in your search. There is this guy selling 35 pieces of what you search for here: http://uvelir.info/announcements/Instru ... yh-kamnei/ Located near the city of Krasnodar, Russia (Heliodor country...). Not sure how recent the add is though....

Justin, do you know what diameter dop the Shtrvoi Kvadrant accepts? I see it has a collet chuck, like a Chinese-made handpiece I have seen does. Looks like the result of some sound design engineering. Viewing the home page indicates that the manufacturer makes machine tools, so this handpiece is but one of many products for sale.

Thomas, I'm not sure but I will let you know in July. I think that website (stanker.su) is a classified ads page for machinery.
The one I am getting is used. A friend connected me to a gem cutter in Moscow who has a small collection and is selling me a few pieces. One is a quadrant like this and one is a version of the diamond tang that is popular is Russia for colored stones.
Its very surprising, I've seen several of these quadrants for sale on used classified sites in Russia and they are only $30-50 which seems incredible considering it's a seemingly well made tool. Sadly all the used ones I saw are sold already until I found this friend of a friend.
