We went to Franklin N.J over the July 4th week, and I found a stone that had green crystals in it. It fluoresced green and orange, so i was happy. (The orange was calcite, of course.) I saw that Willimite (my first guess) isn't green, so then I wanted to figure out what it was. When I went to look at the stone at home, though, it didn't have any green crystals. I checked it with a UV light - it was the right one. Was I imagining things? (It was hot enough at the dump, it could have happened!!) I put it out on the deck and came back a couple days later --- and it had green crystals. Coming inside to use the Raman on it... it didn't.
Turns out... it IS Willimite --- just colorless - - but there is enough UV in sunlight apparently to turn it green.
We'll get some photos in here in a bit. Quite an unusual sample for sure! Franklin was amazing, downright skarnarific, but I was close to heat stroke. Too many hot rocks to walk over.

Wow...great sleuthing job! I had no idea that could happen, and would have thought I was going nuts after "seeing" green one day, then nada on the next.
