zaraphiston,

It's clear that you lack taste (said with a smile), that stone is absolutely beautiful and I could only wish my first one came out as well.

From the picture, it looks like you're well on your way to jumping into a hobby or job that you're going to love. I will (and I assume you did also), never forget when I took my first stone out of the soak jar and dried it and then just marveled at how the light reflected, the stone sparkled and I couldn't believe I actually did it :)

Congratulations, you've done yourself proud and it shows. Take a coffee, tea and make sure you write your notes (what went well, what didn't, what you would have done differently) and then put that into your log of your stone cutting history. Now, while you're doing that, make sure you have another one dopped up and you're looking through all the nice diagrams you can do next.

Congratulations once again, and may all your stones polish with ease :)

2.6Ct Imperial / Precious Topaz (Mexico)
highly Dichroic.
Custom Marquise shape.
i don't like this shape in general ,
but the rough natural shape was almost demand it in order to maintain high % yield.
came up nice eventually :)

Dor,

That looks beautiful. Is it an optical illusion, or am I seeing a hint of red at the bottom right of the stone?

Beautiful Topaz, and nice cut. But just to keep things straight, it is not "Imperial" Topaz as this variety is a very particular color and property set that is not found in Mexico as far as I know. Your stone is properly called "Precious" Topaz to distinguish it from look alike like Citrine Quartz.

you have a point about the " precious" vs "imperial" trade name, when i see brown/brownish or even distinct orange for me personally i cannot says its a true imperial. imperial should be oR not vice versa. but that's only my opinion, another opinion will say that if you have 10-20% red in it, its imperial. so i am not sure how to describe it. i am using gemewizard for grading, and this specific color is part of the imperial topaz color range. rO, Dark ,Slightly Brownish ,reddish Orange.
the rough sold to me as mexican origin, it was bought from a respectable dealer in the US,i cannot be sure its mexican,
maybe refractive index can tell us more? will check.

thanks Bob. you are seen correct. its more than a hint.
the stone look almost pure red faceup and brownish orange from the side. :D

Guerrero topaz can be really exceptional, but it always has at least a bit more of a brown cast than you'd see in fine Brazilian imperial. The dichroism is also stronger, and there isn't a pure pink component mixed in. The overall look on these can be very nice, but if you put a strongly saturated Guerrero next to strongly saturated Imperial I don't think you'd be likely to confuse them. In lower saturations (light pinky peach) you might.
Chemically speaking they are very different--imperial topaz's color is dependent on chromium [though the exact picture is a bit more fuzzy].

you convinced me with that. so " precious" topaz it is.
refractive index by the way is also lower than i personally saw in specimans from brazil.
1.605-1.62 (low concentration of fluorine i suppose?)

maialetto,

That's beautiful. Can I ask what design that is? It looks like there's no symmetry to the cut and you have facets and reflections coming from multiple angles.

Truly striking look and stone,, congratulations ;)
