I am appealing for the this forum for your help.

My parents bought a sapphire with certificate saying its a natural stone , gave it to GRS ( Swiss appraisal firm) and turned out to be synthetic ( man-made). 36K down the drain.Tried to contact them on multiple channels and so far I have been ignored. Why else can I do ?

That is so unfortunate. I wish we could help. But, this is a gemology forum, we can answer gemology question. You have all the answers you need regarding the stone. What you now have is a legal problem. Unfortunately this is probably not the right place for those questions.

i work in the 47th street, but we are not retail business, i don't know Leon Diamond their store is closed right now and they are doing construction work there, i am not sure if it will be same company after renovations or not.
i am sorry to hear this happened to you, i have some questions, do you have the original invoice from them that you have purchased the sapphire? if so you don't have to be worried, i try to help you as much as i can.

your GRS report says synthetic/man made diffused treated sapphires, i have warned about these in 2012 also gave some tips to detect them, please refer to this post:

Length measurement on reports don't match.

Thr photos don't show the same stone. One is a square, one is a cushion.
Very weird.

The two photographs do not appear to show the same stone. Was the stone purchased unset and then given to a setter to put in a ring? Might be worth checking if the original stone was switched for the man-made one.

Interesting . Measurements for depth and width are very close and easily done with different leverage gauges , the length could be just sloppy measuring . Both reports say cushion cut, not step or emerald. Never heard of Empire Royal blue and the designation AAA is inappropriate . American appraisal association appears to be the name of the appraisal company in NYC and not an association . Definitely go with the Swiss report!!!

So much also depends on the experience of the appraiser.
I was recently presented with a ring appraised as synthetic by a local GG. for a 2nd opinion.

It took me less than 30 seconds to see intersecting intact rutile needles at 60º, 120º.

Long story short, the stone was sent to the GIA and identified as Sri Lanka (Ceylon) no evidence of heat treatment: 10.38 carats.
