Hi to all member
some body asked me that how to detected the irradation stones without using
Geiger Counters. I replyed the used uv lamp. I do not know that I am right wrong.
Can any one solve this problem. what is the minim range which is not dangerious for health.
If you have access to a photographic darkroom, you can lay the suspect stones on a piece of sheet film or photo printing paper. Direct contact is best ie put the paper and the stones together inside a lighttight black envelope.(alpha rays will hardly penetrate anything and betas arent that strong either. Even a layer of thick black lightproof photo paper will reduce them. Not usually gamma though)
Let the stones sit for a day or so then develop the film or paper. If there is radioactivity present it will leave an image of some kind on the film. If it leaves an image then do further tests with a Geiger counter or scintillation counter or something else operated by someone who knows how.
There is no safe level of radioactivity for optional things like jewelry.
This was how Becquerel discovered radioactivity down the hall from the Curies. No I wasnt there

We test stones that are NOT found in nature (London Blue Topaz) which is created by exposure to a rector. Place a new sheet of b&W film sheet under stone with black side up. after talking to salesman open the sheet of film. If there is an image IT IS HOT. We use black and white films, because the are better than color. Can be found at Edmund or scientific suppliers. Danger to the customer who wears item in ring, pendant, etc.
