I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me answer. I have this lovely ring with rose cut diamonds. I have been doing some internet research and believe them to be a dutch rose cut, specifically a Brabant rose cut. Is this correct? And is there a formula for calculating carat wight for dutch rose cut diamonds? I'm also having some difficulty with one of the hallmarks. The first one, the oak leaf, I understand to be Netherlands 14K gold (1906-1953). The second one I can't make out at all. Does anyone know that it is? I would be most grateful for any help!

Well doe with the oak leaf. You are absolutely correct! The ring was made with both silver and gold. Have you researched any silver marks which may be the mystery stamp?

Thank you! Yes, from what I can see the silver finess mark from that period is a sword without a "frame". Doesn't look like that's it. However, after your suggestion, I did look again. Perhaps it could be a Regional Assay Office mark. Either the "head" för silver or the "lion" for gold? I was kind of hoping it was a date letter. It would be fun to have a more precise date than "it was made sometime in this 47 year period".

Your sleuthing is excellent.
But I understand, when it comes to jewelry a half century span is a big one.
Early 20th century seems to be fair for the metal work. I suspect the diamonds may have been cur long before and repurposed into the ring. What do you think?
Usually 14k in the Netherlands is 583, right?; as opposed to 585 or did I dream that.

The shoulders of the shank seem to be rather old styled. Are you sure it is « only » an imitation of a georgian ring ? What does the reverse of the stone setting look like ? Open or closed ?

I am not sure. I assume it is'nt georgian because it's hallmarked. I did some more "digging" and found this:
"A Dutch hallmark representing the letter "i" (1906-1953) for articles that were already old or antique when given to be checked by the essay office (used from 1906 till 1953)."
So, if the destorted mark is an " i"... What do you think?
It's a closed back and I suspect foil.
