Besides practising and not having to be concerned with inclusion cutting, why would people facet YAG. Yes I know it has great sintillation and the clarity is wonderful, but it seems the value of the finished gemstone does not reflect the amount of work creating it. Any comments?
For individual cutters, you mean? It's mostly done as a hobby; although there's a small niche market for very well cut synthetic/artifical stones. In this case, you're paying for the quality of the work far more than the intrinsic value of the material.
I agree with @Dioptase above. If one is looking for a "valuable" material, look elsewhere. However, in certain situations there is a market for such things. I cut three YAG SRBs last year and my wife sold them all at a local gem show in about twenty minutes... $100 each.
Sorry but I do not understand 'Topic has been moved' - why and where is it now? I am a new user and did a search in the FAQ but could not find any reference to 'Topic has been moved" Please advise so I will know what is wrong. Thanks, Don

One may say this about all man-made materials but the truth is many buyers do not see the value difference in paying the big bucks when they see the same thing in a simulant. Colorless CZ, Corundum, Yag, GGG, Niobate, and of coarse Moisinite which in it self not cheap or easy to come by, but all these and many more have been used and sold in jewelry for many many years so there is a market. Sometimes sitting down at your faceting machine with a synthetic and not worrying about the issues faced with natural gem rough can be relaxing and hone your skills. Besides the drawer of past low cost finished quartz, that do not have much bigger values than cost and time investment do not care if you throw that man made stone you finished in the drawer. Greg

Hi Don. You originally posted this in the GIA section. It is more appropriate for the Lapidary section, so I moved it here. Looks like you found it.
