Unfortunately I found that giant crack through the table as I cut the table, but really this stone was all about learning what obvious mistakes I was going to make.

Unfortunately, I do not (yet) have a macro lens, so this one is hard to see...
This is my first Beryl. I ordered a "blind pour" of Beryl off of Etsy, and as expected they all came with pretty big inclusions - most were cracks right down the middle, so each stone was effectively half the size. Bright side, my office/workshop now smells like pleasant cinnamon from the jar of cinnamon oil I'm dunking stones in.
Anyway, it's resulting in some small stones. Beryl is even more fun to cut an polish than quartz - it takes the cerium oxide up even better.
That said, because it's so small, it's hard to get a good shot of. The imgur link at the end is a small video, and that's a little easier to see.

it's .57ct, which is quite small, but the exact right size for a pair of earrings for my daughter. I've never set a gem before, and I'm hoping the larger girdle isn't going to screw with the setting but it's a learning process. The gem is 4.9mm in diameter, so it should be within tolerances of a standard setting.
Now the challenge is cutting another one of the same size.

another one finished today. started with 18Ct Zircon rough (african material from unknown origin) 4.53Ct finished piece with a portuguese cut cushion design. had to deal with a few unknown cracks along the way,and glue that didn't hold and breaked 5 times (!!) along the cutting process, made me to cheat a lot, and lose a bit of material ,but all and all I am happy with the result. I heat it lightly to improve the color, may need to heat a bit more.

A bit late on this, but I did finally manage to finish a companion gem for this one. It ended up ever so slightly larger than the first stone (5mm diameter, instead of 4.9) but my “customer” doesnt seem to mind!
