Hello all, been absent for a while as just became a father <insert exhausted beyond belief emoji> (apologies Barb, still need to send that garnet rough to you)
I just got a parcel of 4ct+ tanzanite and wanted to do a price check. Dealer is asking around $200/ct for the lot (seems steep to me). All pieces are above 4ct, 10x Loupe clean, cutting is good with no windowing. Colour looks good to me but I know this is key to pricing.
Im not experienced with Tanzanite and I intend to sell them so need a margin; hence wondering what kind of price these kind of pieces sell for realistically please.
am always amazed how the price goes up as it climbs the chain.
I am no expert but only thing I would like to point out Raj is first Congratulations on being a dad!! I know you will feel very tired but it is worth it (i am 6 years in and still as tired as i was the first day Second, the colors of tanzanite are so easily boosted by cameras sensors. They love to boost that blue, be careful trusting the color of photos.
I myself don't think 200 for those is a bargain, but about right for the saturation and cutting of them (thinking wholesale here)
The most recent parcel price I have seen on Tanzanite in the 5ct plus size AAA Gem is between $200 - $225. This is for better color, better cut, and larger sizes.
I saw one very large lot of 1,000 carats for $180/ct.
These are prices to dealers from Jaipur cutters, There are markups from here to jewelers, and of cours again to the public.

Thanks so much TheL, man people told me to enjoy my freedom before she was born but I ignored it lol I thought how hard could it be ? Turns out very I cannot even imagine a day where my life will go back to normal and I can get 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep ....... When I get a chance to dream, I am dreaming about sleep
Thel & 1bwana1, I am in complete agreement with you. My initial instincts thought these were near retail cost already based on colour, size & cut.
The prices are so wildly exaggerated for even mediocre material. Dealers are of course taking advantage of this.
Last year I bought a 100ct+ parcel of bicolour tanzanite, all beautifully cut and saturated for $20/ct. Yesterday the price for the same material has gone up to $60/ct.
A lot of course depends on where you find them. I have bought Tanzanite last year for $15/carat for 3-4 carat cut pieces - but this was at a flea market from a former pawn shop owner who was getting rid of his stock. Luck has a lot to do with it. Steve has much better regular sources than I have.
