The polariscope reaction would indicate that the stone is doubly refractive, so that is a minor help in narrowing down the possibilities. A refractometer reading would be of great help. You can still test set stones if there is a facet that can rest flat on the hemicylinder (the table facet is often proud of the prong height so simply setting the ring face down on the table will likely work).
