Hi everybody

From a pseudo-intellectual point of view, I am a fanatic of synthetics and treated stones. I am trying to build a collection of all existing synthetic types.
Crawling away from my 1.5 and 2.5 yo little monsters who are occupying 99.9% of my free time, I’ve managed to take a first look at 2 synthetic stones I bought on eBay a few months ago as “heavily included Chatham corundums”. Those proved to be quenched Verneuil corundum. At 5$ apiece, I did not loose much money. But I still don’t have any flux stone!
Does anyone know where I can get flux emerald/corundum at a reasonable price (which really means at a low price). Heavily included stones are welcome.

One of my dreams: to get a whole hydrothermal emerald crystal. I thought about it for Christmas but I had to choose between this and the pink Dora bicycle for my daughter and the musical “Teletubbies” for the boy. I did not think too long about it …

Best whishes to all for this new year !!

JY

Hi Jean-Yves!

If you don't mind it in rough form, try here for hydrothermal emerald rough.

And these people say
Quote:
Our LAB Gemstones are produced by the flux method (if not other mentioned), some fine LAB Emeralds are produced by the hydrothermal method.
These people are in Europe, which might be more interesting for you.

Jean-Yves;

You may want to check out Morion. They been a synthetic dealer for quite some time and they're and AGTA member. They sell a variety of synthetics (some of the more exotic diamond imitations) and the prices are quite reasonable.

Hi Jean-Yves!

If you are interested in flux-grown ruby crystals with good form, you might contact Virginia Carter at http://www.Ramaura.com. She has actually retired from the crystal growing business, but might be able to help you anyway. I bought two beautifully crystalized ruby crystals from Virginia several years ago - they were $50 per ct, but as they were about 0.5 ct each, the price per stone was not too bad... If you have Dick's book, you'll get some idea of what the uncut Ramaura crystals look like... Stunning, in my view!!!

pm me if you need more details...
Cheers!
Greg

Hi everybody and thanks for your help

I managed to get hold of:

- a 135ct full hydrothermal emerald crystal. A small beauty at 47$;
- a 1.2 kg full hydrothermal quartz crystal at 12$
- 2 small 0.55 ct flux emerald cabs for 23$;
- a 28.5 ct piece of rough "created opal" for 28$
- 2 pieces (127 ct) of rough "synthetic opal" for 25$.

Provider: Rusgems in Hongkong (sales@rusgems.com.hk)
Shipping fee via DHL (2 days) : 50$

They have plenty of other products (including flux emerald crystals but halas not available at the time of my order) of interest.

I am extremely happy with the products I received. All stones are very characteristics of what they are. I'll try to post some pictures of rough and inclusions. Well, I'll do it when I come back from vacations in 2 weeks.

And it shall also be time to finish the "ellipsoid" thing we started a few months ago. Sharpen your cutters !

See you soon

JY

Yes Jean-Yves would be great to continue that.

For everyone, JY made some models earlier. You can find them at http://yey.be/indicatrix.html
