For this first entry I am going to post 3 pictures of the same stone. Under three different lighting conditions. Sorry they are not the best pics. This was an incredibly difficult stone to photograph. The only hint I'll give up front is this is not a sapphire. Every day the correct answer is not guessed, I'll post a new hint. Prize is yet to be determined.

WHATIZZIT?

How about what it's not.
Its not a garnet
It's not natural quartz, chrysoberyl, feldspar, spodumene, axinite, andalusite...

Today's clue is:

"I have a hardness of about 7 on the mohs scale."

Gosh you two are too fast. I thought this would be a toughie...but maybe the hardness factor was a bit too informative. Tourmaline it is. Supposedly cuprian. A small piece of about 1.5 cts.

since Dragonsteks post technically came 2 minutes before Barbras I'm going to award the prize to Dragonstek!

The winner receives a 2.11 ct Pink Tanzanian Zircon pictured below:

Due to sad smiley faces beyond my control the following pair of pink Zircons weighing a total of 1.70 cts will be going to the OTHER winner, Barbra.
