here I wanted to show you guys what else i collect around here in GA. these are rutile crystals from graves mtn., GA. It's considered the number 1 location for rutile crystals. The luster and size and shape is fantastic. i have seen crystals of rutile come from here in huge sizes and selling fo $25,000+ dollars. I am going back on sat. so i figured I would dig some out to show. i have a lead on a new location there that I really really hope pays off. i tried to capture the light reflection on some so you can see the luster.

Hi Tim,
When you say gem rutile, is that the rutilated quartz?
If so, I found one fossiking in the club container taken from around Gladstone, NE Tas.
Clear with gold rutile.

Oh feck, something else to go look up
Our fav Aussie book has rutile being marked down for finding at Gladstone.
Shows it on the map in the green granite area along with sapphire, spinel alexandrite topaz, zircon and gem quartz. Top right corner of Tassie.
Will have to give my friend a call.

Haven't forgotten Tim.
Just got onto the chap, he hasn't heard of it being found on it's own, just in quartz, but he's going to ask his son. It might have been found many moons ago in the old mines there. Will let you know when I find out more.

Got me cam back so I figured i would throw up some more pics of rutile that I just took out of a primary hydrochloric bath with a secondary oxalic bath. Please note these are NOT wet..the luster on them is fantastic which makes the specimens from graves the best in the world..also doesn't hurt that they were free

Richard, as long as it is not June, July, August, or the first part of September, take him up on it. It is too freaking hot for the work you would do in the pit. That would be digging and sifting. But even though I only spent about 3-4 hrs doing it with AG once, I got some nice little specimens (but nothing like AG posted pics of).

Oh, Richard, and you have to put up with some snot-nosed 'kid'*, so definitely don't want to be too hot under the collar already.
He, who says 'take it home' and has yet to stop by and get his JXR Amethyst and Ampa Tourmaline that I slaved for hours cutting.
