They were $10 a carat in tucson.. same guy from france sells them every year on the frontage road same spot. They look a little tumbled but also some faces are clear. I found they were fairly included, looks like average .5 carat per. I like them, color is stop light red.. just what you want..

A few years ago I was in Kashmir, India and a fellow offered me about a kilo of little spinel crystals about this size, colour and shape... for $150! I turned him down as I had absolutely no idea what to do with them, but they were beautiful. He told me they came from Burma.
I kind of wish I'd bought them now!
However I did come back with a handful of tourmaline pencils 5-8 carats each for a total of $5 which I'm still smiling about.

In Burmese Spinel they often are sharp edged but some definitely appear water worn, I would suspect naturally. I have sold many to wire wrap artist that use them as is. I was stunned by some pictures of their work with wire and such small stones. I am a smith and I still don't use them due to the size.
Prices vary dramatically especially on quantity. $150 a kilo (5000 carats) is cheap on pretty reds, $10 a carat may be high though. Best regards, Lee
