i mainly have the problem with distinguishing navy/black shoes, clothes, etc... i usually have to do as bruce mentioned and place a pair of slacks, which i know are black, and compare what i'm not too sure of to find out if it's navy/black. strange thing is that i have this problem regardless of lighting.
i have plastic lenses in both eyes due to cataract surgery at an early age after being exposed to a type of coolant used in manufacturing equipment which had splashed in my eyes. my pupils don't usually dilate/constrict to light like they used to, don't know if that makes any sense. the worst and scariest is driving at night-can't see a darn thing with oncoming traffic and car lights.

I've mentioned over the years that metamerism is a huge issue in several industries.
Click Matching components in clothing, textiles, paint, interior design, etc. is extremely difficult when the items are viewed under different (and often unforeseen) lighting conditions.
ms. barbra,
thank you for the link! i will try an experiment with the black/navy clothes tomorrow in the kitchen, which has a fluorescent light, and i'll let you know if i can distinguish the difference in the colors. i'll let you know after i try the "experiment," if it works, i guess i'll be running to the kitchen to separate clothes to wear and fold clean clothes from the dryer-especially socks. lol!
