Interesting, the chip makers are prepared to pay as much as one penny per carat for top quality quartz?

sad to read how the people in the community have been affected by it though because manufacturing synthetic quartz is too expensive.

I really like that the BBC is the organization to publicize a mineral operation of major consequence that is working in a small Appalachian (Blue Ridge) mountain town in the US. Thanks for posting. My wife and I are going to Spruce Pine / Little Switzerland this fall to do some rough hunting.

i guess the local community didn't realize how their lives would be impacted by selling the mine. sold themselves out of being able to make a living.
