It can be an article, a photo-essay or a video presentation.
The subject matter is up to you.
All must be original.

Contestants are permitted and encouraged to modify, alter, add to and revise their entry up until the deadline!

Sure...by original, we mean that the work is your own.
Look at the Gemology Project now.
The work is original and usually contains references.

Example:
You could submit a video you made on amber in your collection.

You can not submit a video on amber you found while surfing YouTube.

:D

Oh, correction:
Gingerkid is working on another submission for the contest.

Serendibite was just an article she wrote for GP to add to our collection, it was not meant to be a contest entry.

It's still great though!

I'll have to make sure that I do an ALMOST first-class job... since the only way to get my hands on Bill Hanneman's Guide to Affordable Gemology (until the third edition) is to place second, heh...

Perhaps I'll do a submission on the prehistoric archaeology related to the uses of different gem materials/minerals? Or maybe just beg a copy of the book of someone and write without any ulterior motive :P
