New digital usb microscope cameras

Has anyone experience with these new portable USB microscope/cameras? They look fascinating, but...'new'

hi,

everything has it's use and limitations. That one is not more than a little toy, i purchased one similar sometimes ago just to make unpretentious fast little shots & videos. If your intent is the same go for it, Its handy & cheap.

I just wondered if one could get a nice, clear shot of a small gem with it; good enough for a web page, for example.

for that purpose i think a small cheap pocket digital camera could be better.

I agree with Alberto. I have not used a single one of these camera that I found to be worthy of their cost to be honest. One can do far more and have more flexibility and better IQ with a P&S digital camera IMHO. Now, that said, some of those cameras are better then others though. But 1.3MP is not very large, even for web posting, no room for cropping, that is for sure. I would not go with anything under a true, not interpolated, 3MP.

On many versions, the Asian USB "digital microscope" software wasn't compatible with "advanced" PC operating systems.

I would like to know, there are various adapters for slr camera as well which can be used in place of the eyepiece lens, one that I have seen on ebay is adapter for nikon slr camera (I have Nikon D60), however the adapter has a magnification of 2x only making the total magnification of microscope 10x, how good will be these adapters to use with my nikon slr camera for taking picture of inclusion for web posting??

Stuller has one at more than 6 times the price as well: http://www.stuller.com/products/29-1501/?groupId=99096 - I'm not inclined to pay that, I'd rather buy an upgrade to my digital camera with a better macro lens for the price. I'd consider the 70 buck model though lol!

Dino-Lite has new models with 220x Magnification and 1.3M Pixels for $329.00 and $399.00 (with measuring capabilities). The measuring is definitely worth the $70.00 if you are measuring inclusions, table, depth, etc. If you're just using it for retail applications, the base model is just fine.

10x on the chip which is then further magnified by the ratio (the image size on the screen/image size on sensor). Different eyepiece adapters have different quality but I know of no place where there are "consumer reports" on them. Fortunately it is not very difficult nor expensive to make a 2x relay lens. Buy one that has a no questions asked return privilege and observe the deadlines for it.

I agree with Alberto and Jamey. The cameras mentioned look like junk to me and everyone I have talked to or have seen posts about them reports the same thing.
Any point and shoot with the most elementary macro capability will shoot rings around the ones mentioned.
