London was great success and it was really pleasing to meet GO friends. Next live presentation will be at the Accredited Gemologists Association's (AGA) Tucson Gemological Conference taking place on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Marriott University Park, Tucson AZ.

We will also be at Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, River Park Inn (Pueblo) Feb. 3-9.
Sorry if this sounds like an unscrupulous commercial.... it's actually more an invitation for GO friends to come visit us if you're around....

Hi Mikko & Alberto,

Just wanted to say again that it was a real pleasure to spend these days with you in Madrid, during the installation of GemmoRaman-532SG in the IGE lab!
Our sincere congratulations for developing this machine! We are really impressed! =D> =D> =D>

I uploaded some pictures from your visit here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ya61c9kh5cfz ... Tf8WbR5a#/

I have read this with interest. I understand how this can identify different material, can it also identify treatments and synthetics?

I can never afford one, but am interested.

Hi, we are using GemmoRaman-532SG for more than 1 year, actually we are really tough users, as we use it on every day run, 8h per day, and have tested ~ 40000 articles and gems.
It is definitely second most important instrument after microscope, even we have FTIR, XRF, UV-VIS on table, hard to find any disadvantage for it, easy to use, safe to use, well made and easy to operate, very impressive software...
Samples for application: diamonds, even packed in plastic or under quartz window (watches or dancing diamonds), natural and synthetic emeralds, most of crystalline materials...
You will love it, just give chance and try!

P.s. You could more specify application to be more precise about it

I too use it on a more or less daily basis. I agree with Barbra and Peters. It has more or less made my refractometer obsolete but still the microscope is number one :)

Thank you very much for your answers and
I have few questions about it:

How big is profile databade that goes with this Raman?

Can I focus it at small crystalin inclusions inside the stone?

Does it require any expendables every time you use it?

the software and database libraries are open source and can be browsed here: http://www.gemmoraman.com/Libraries.aspx

you need a confocal microRaman for that task, we are talking about a bigger and far more expensive instrument here, various models on the market are sold in a price range between 70 and 250 k$
Does it require any expendables every time you use it?
absolutely not.

sidenote about Database:

the GemmoRaman software is provided by a plugin for automatically export the spectra into Crystalsleuth (a freeware software that can be downloaded here: http://rruff.info/about/about_download.php ). this will allow to search for a matching reference in the RRUFF, ( http://rruff.info/ ) the most important freeware Raman spectra Database of minerals available in the world, counting actually more than 5000 spectra.
