I'll admit I don't understand people wearing jewelry in the shower. Just seems like a bad idea even on stones and metals it is less likely to affect. I would also guess that hitting a stone with hot water is a good example of thermal shock--not quite like laying it on a stove, but doing it over and over again seems problematic.
