Dr. Amos has recently been named a "Fellow of the Royal Society" and signed his name in the same membership book with Sir Isaac Newton, Stephen Hawking and other scientific luminaries from Great Britain. The scientific equivalent of a Knighthood or Nobel Prize I think.

Definitely the scientific equivalent of knighthood.

Um, the scientific equivalent of the Nobel Prize is the Nobel Prize. At least in physics, chemistry, and medicine. The mathematics equivalent of the Nobel Prize is the Fields Medal. The astronomy equivalent I think is the Gruber prize, or some such.

In each lab I've worked, I've always taken the week before the Nobel announcement to do some spring cleaning ... ya never know

Dear Gemmologists,
The URL that I gave for my personal website (see previous posts) does not work any more. You can find the same information on birefringence for facetors, Brewster Conoscopy etc. ( which I intend to update soon) at http://brad-amos.webplus.net . The reason for this change is that my old website was cancelled by Virgin Media when they bought NTL World.
